Many of our patients falsely believe that sleep apnea is simply a condition that causes snoring, but it is really much more than that. Sleep apnea is a condition that causes repeated cessations of breathing during the night and prevents oxygen from getting to your brain. You may wake up frequently throughout the night, which leads to a lack of sleep, mood changes and overall daytime fatigue.
Dr. Nadia Pokrovskaya is an experienced dentist and offers effective sleep apnea solutions to end your snoring and allow you to get the rest your body so desperately needs. While the most well-known solution for sleep apnea is a CPAP device, many patients find themselves unable or unwilling to sleep with one. We offer our patients a more minimally invasive solution with the TAP® 3 oral appliance.
What Is The TAP 3?
The TAP 3, or Thornton Adjustable Positioner, is a customized oral appliance that you wear at night while you sleep. It has been proven effective in the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea by repositioning the jaw to keep your airway open. The appliance will move the jaw forward, lifting the soft tissues in the back of the throat to ensure proper airflow. What makes the TAP 3 so unique is that the mouth piece is uniquely fit to your jaw for comfort and security. Additionally, it contains a clasp mechanism that holds your jaw in proper position. Utilizing a key and hook technique, you are able to make adjustments to the mouthpiece so it fits in a comfortable and well-positioned manner and won’t move out of position.
